Lawn mowers fall into a few basic categories, Hover type mowers, reel mowers, rotary lawn mowers with wheels. and cylinder mowers.

Hover Lawn Mowers
Light and easy to use, except requires a reasonably flat lawn and reasonably fine grass i.e. Is not suitable for Med Lush, Augustine or Economy as the mowing height required for the grass ( 2" + ) is not achievable.

Rotary Lawn Mowers
Good general purpose lawn mower, for most types of grasses. Better with a lever height adjuster, but some come with adjustable height wheels. Idea for Med Lush and med Green.
Petrol Lawn Mowers
Makes easy work of a larger lawn.
Cylinder Lawn Mowers
Operates by cutting the grass between a fixed lower blade and a revolving blade. Both petrol and hand versions will roll the lawn as they cut. The roller will leave the typical stripes on a freshly cut lawn. Preferred type for cutting putting greens (short) grass, because the grass is cut between the blades in a vertical direction as opposed to ripping the grass in a horizontal direction.
Reel Lawn Mowers
Operates by cutting the grass between a fixed lower blade and a revolving blade. Can have a grass box attached for the clippings. A good model for cutting Med Fine.
